ZSL: Outfall Safari

Saturday 21 May 2016

Sadly, data gathered by Citizen Crane volunteers shows that the ecology of the river, particularly in the upper catchment, is being damaged by high concentrations of ammonia. The likely source of this ammonia is the 150 surface water outfalls that drain into the river. After running a pilot outfall monitoring project last year the citizen Crane team have  decided that one of the next steps is to survey all of these outfalls and, with the help of a mobile app, map and record the impact of each.  We are also looking for volunteers to help with the Outfall Safari, on the weekend of May 21st and 22nd. The results of the survey will greatly improve our understanding of the river system and help to target the most polluting sources.

Briefing sessions will be held on May 7th, 9th & 11th, see ZSL Outfall Safari flyer for miore details.
